Make-Ready Construction Management
Draftech-managed crews execute the make-ready your engineering package calls for. Get communications transfers, clearance corrections and completion records under one accountable construction team.
Put your make-ready package into the field
Draftech provides make-ready construction management and full turnkey construction through Draftech-managed crews for ISPs, carriers and other communications attachers. We take your engineering package and organize the required pole work. You get a single point of accountability from engineering handoff to pole-owner sign-off, with one schedule and Draftech's QA/QC and safety program governing the work.
An engineered transfer still needs someone to finish it. When several contractors carry separate pieces of make-ready, a missed rearrangement can hold the cable placement for an entire route section. Mid-span corrections fall between scopes, unfinished transfers trigger return visits, and the cable installation team arrives before the route is ready. The attacher ends up reconciling conflicting progress reports while its build date slips.
Our utility construction services put execution and responsibility together. For make-ready construction services, that means carrying each assigned pole from its construction instructions through completed work, quality review and the acceptance process. Your program manager has one team to resolve a missed item and explain its effect on the next construction activity.
What make-ready construction management includes
The engineering package defines the work. Draftech turns those requirements into field assignments, sequences the dependencies, and Draftech-managed crews execute the communications-space scope. Deliverables include:
- Communications-space transfers and rearrangements: Attachment moves, re-lashing and clearance corrections called for in the engineering, with the affected attachments identified before work begins.
- Mid-span corrections: Required corrections between poles, tracked with the associated pole work so a finished attachment move does not leave an unresolved span condition.
- Pole change-outs within make-ready: New or taller poles where the engineering calls for them, coordinated with the dependencies that control the communications transfer.
- OTMR simple make-ready: Physical work performed to the pole owner's requirements and the One-Touch Make-Ready process where applicable to the assigned scope.
- Per-pole completion records: Records connecting the finished work, field observations and resolved corrections to the corresponding instructions in the engineering package.
The scope review identifies what Draftech-managed crews will execute and what must be completed by another responsible party before that work can proceed. Those dependencies stay visible in the schedule.
Start with a controlled engineering handoff
Draftech-managed crews work from packages prepared by Draftech's in-house engineers or supplied by your engineering team. At handoff, we review the pole identifiers, current drawing revisions, transfer instructions, required corrections and outstanding questions. The construction team needs a clear connection between each field location and the work authorized there.
When Draftech provides make-ready engineering, that engineering is 100% in-house. The construction handoff carries its instructions into crew assignments and completion checks. When you supply the design, we establish the same working baseline and identify who will resolve engineering questions during execution.
An attachment that differs from the drawing, an inaccessible work location or an unclear transfer instruction needs a documented resolution. We identify the affected pole and bring the issue back for clarification before proceeding with that portion of the work. The resolved instruction then follows the assignment into the field, keeping crews and reviewers on the same revision.
Sequence transfers around the route you need to build
Assigning crews to a list of locations is only the start of pole make-ready construction management. A transfer may depend on work at the next pole, an existing attacher's action or completion of a change-out. Draftech manages those relationships against your intended cable installation sequence.
We organize assignments around the work that can proceed and track the conditions holding the remaining poles. If a prerequisite slips, the schedule identifies the affected transfer and the route section it blocks. Your team can then assess the installation impact from a specific unresolved item instead of a general statement that make-ready is nearly finished.
Our pole transfer services keep each communications move tied to the replacement pole and its readiness. The required transfer, associated span corrections and completion check remain connected. That prevents a crew's departure from being mistaken for completion while a dependent task is still open.
Where the package requires a new or taller pole, the change-out stays part of that coordinated make-ready sequence. Projects seeking pole setting as a separate engagement can use our pole installation and replacement service.
Keep OTMR execution tied to the assigned work
Draftech-managed crews execute OTMR simple make-ready within the defined construction scope, moving existing communications attachers' facilities for the new attacher in the communications space as the engineering directs and following the pole owner's requirements and the applicable One-Touch Make-Ready process. Each move of another attacher's facilities is documented in the per-pole record.
For upstream classification and process requirements, our One-Touch Make-Ready engineering service handles that handoff. Here, the construction obligation is to execute the assigned simple make-ready and document what was completed at each pole.
Check the work before calling it complete
Draftech's QA/QC applies to the make-ready executed by Draftech-managed crews. We check the finished transfers and clearance corrections against NESC clearance requirements, the pole owner's construction standards and the engineering instructions. Required mid-span corrections are checked for the midspan clearances the engineering requires, along with the pole attachments, because completion at the pole alone does not establish completion of the assigned work.
We connect each correction to the affected pole or span, direct the follow-up work and check its resolution.
The same accountability carries through field execution under Draftech's safety program. The program addresses applicable OSHA requirements for communications-space work, including working below energized power facilities and traffic exposure at the pole.
We carry our scope through the pole-owner sign-off process, including follow-up on items raised against that work.
Receive completion records you can trace to the package
Per-pole records make the handoff to your cable installation team usable. Each record connects the location to its assigned work and completion status, with supporting field documentation for the completed moves and corrections. Where an instruction changed during execution, the record identifies the resolved requirement used for the work.
That traceability matters when a question returns after crews leave. Your program manager can locate the pole and see what was required. The record distinguishes completed work from open corrections. Work awaiting pole-owner acceptance is identified separately.
These records cover the make-ready assignment. If your program also needs the full end-of-project package, construction closeout documentation is a separate service.
Make-Ready Construction Management FAQ
Can Draftech execute a package prepared by our engineer?
Yes. Draftech-managed crews can execute your engineer's package without requiring you to commission a replacement design from Draftech. Your engineering team remains the source of the supplied design; Draftech takes responsibility for the construction handoff and the field execution.
Does the service include physical pole work?
Yes. Draftech-managed crews physically execute the transfers, rearrangements and corrections included in the make-ready scope. This is an engagement for construction, rather than independent inspection of a build assigned to another contractor. Draftech carries construction scheduling responsibility through completion, with one QA/QC and safety program.
Can you handle mid-span corrections with the transfers?
Yes. Mid-span corrections called for in the engineering are included in the assigned make-ready work. When you send the package for scoping, include its span instructions along with the pole transfer details so both are part of the construction assignment.
What happens when a pole cannot proceed as scheduled?
We identify the blocking condition and the work it affects. We then name the responsible party for the action that releases that pole, whether the pole owner, an existing attacher or another contractor, and track it in the schedule.
How do we know which poles are finished?
Per-pole completion records tie the work back to the engineering package. Use the pole identifiers to match those records to the locations in your cable installation plan.
Put one team on your make-ready execution
Send Draftech your engineering package, pole list, current completion status and intended cable installation sequence. Include known access constraints and outstanding dependencies so we can scope the physical work and build a pole-by-pole construction schedule.
